When creating a Historical Query, you have the option of pulling static or real-time data by choosing a setting in the Historical Query Preferences.

Static Data

"Static Data" refers to a snapshot of a symbol's prices at a specific point in time. Static data queries will not poll new data from the GlobalView servers unless you specifically request an update by clicking the Refresh icon. The Refresh icon will only be visible if you select "Show refresh button in the toolbar" from your Preferences.

                

Real-time Data

A "real-time" query will use the Excel RTD Connection to detect when new data is available on the GlobalView servers and will automatically pull the new information into your query.
